Alyce Jeanne "AJ" Frelin
Service for Alyce Jeanne "AJ" Frelin, 56, will be
at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Col. Frelin,
who was born in Lewistown, PA, died unexpectedly January 29.
She retired to Coeur d'Alene in 1992 after serving more than
26 years in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. At retirement, she was Chief of
Nursing Administration, Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Aurora, CO.
Previous service locations included Fort Ord, CA; Fort Sam Houston, TX;
Fort Hood, TX; and Letterman Army Medical Center, San Francisco, CA.
Col. Frelin served at 85th Evacuation Hospital, Republic of Vietnam, in
1966-67.
Among her numerous awards are the Legion of Merit,
Meritorious Service Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, and for service
in Vietnam, the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnamese Service
Medal.
Col. Frelin received her Diploma in Nursing from Polyclinic
Hospital, Harrisburg, PA; Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the
University of San Francisco; and Masters of Science in Nursing with
emphasis in Management and Education from the University of California,
San Francisco.
After retirement, she became active in the Coeur d'Alene
Community Theater, the Three C's, and, as a instrument rated commercial
pilot, the Civil Air Patrol and the 99's women's flying organization.
She was an avid skier, golfer, bowler, and RV'r.
She is survived by a sister, Janice, of Willits,
California; a brother, Jeff, of Norristown, Pennsylvania; and a niece
and two nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Coeur d'Alene
Community Theatre. |
